Environmental Protection
A lot of people think that environmental protection is something very “hippie” but in fact it is very important. The U.S. has the Environmental Protection Agency, and each state has its own E.P.A. as well. This group monitors what impact businesses and development have on the surrounding environment.
A lot of regulations have to be created for environmental protection. To have clean air, for example, the E.P.A. will decide how much of certain kinds of emissions a business can create. These levels have to be high enough that the business can operate, but low enough that the emissions will not pose a threat to nearby people.
Then the E.P.A. has to enforce these regulations. They have to occasionally check to make sure that businesses are staying within the regulations. If not, the business will be fined. There are a lot of aspects to environmental protection, and if they are not attended to people could be harmed.
