Mitigation Project Screening and Due Diligence

Project screening can range from cursory review to a specialized in-depth assessment regarding the viability of a given project. Based on the client’s needs, this assessment will present an in-depth analysis of a project’s structure and characteristics and identify specific issues and problems that appear likely to require attention. This viability assessment also includes an Offset Project Baseline Report.

Rules regarding how to treat additionality and baselines do not yet exist, and it is an area that is poorly understood by many companies interested in pursuing project-based investments. TC+ES has reviewed hundreds of GHG projects more than 13 years, and using proprietary flowcharts and other tools can help companies understand this complex area. TC+ES also supports the assessment of individual mitigation projects that a company may be considering.

Due diligence on any project can be an extensive procedure involving a detailed assessment of the company, the market, and the project's financial characteristics. A project due diligence typically covers:

Company assessment;

Commercial market assessment;

Financial assessment;

Legal assessment;

GHG mitigation assessment;

Risk assessment and recommendation.

TC+ES has conducted a number of due diligence assessments (both on-site and desk reviews) and brings to the process expertise in GHG mitigation sectors and analysis, legal expertise, and risk management specialties.
