Achieving GHG Neutrality Many companies are choosing to calculate and offset their GHG footprint as a component of their sustainability strategy and environmental branding process. TC+ES helps companies accomplish this objective with tailored mitigation portfolios that are both environmentally credible and cost-effective. For example: TC+ES helped Stonyfield Farm, Inc. become the first carbon neutral company in 1996, after Stonyfield selected TC+ES to work with the company over several nongovernmental groups offering a similar service. TC+ES helped Stonyfield calculate its GHG footprint and secured offset projects to offset 100% of the company's emissions at its New Hampshire manufacturing facility. These projects included restoration of salmon habitat through reforestation, utilization of vented coalmine methane, and construction of straw-bale homes in China. TC+ES helped Shaklee Corp. become the first company to be certified as Climate Neutral™ by the Climate Neutral Network (CNN). TC+ES managed Shaklee's application to CNN; as the first application to CNN, this process involved the negotiation of both inventory and offset protocols. TC+ES calculated Shaklee's GHG footprint and developed a portfolio of mitigation projects for use in offsetting the company's emissions. These projects included solar rural electrification, utilization of vented coalmine methane, and replacement of school boilers in Portland, Oregon. TC+ES continues to work in this area TC+ES's work with companies is premised on the knowledge that with adequate information and support, companies can simultaneously accomplish several objectives: sustainability and environmental branding, cost-effectiveness, and environmental credibility. |
